Apremont-sur-Allier

The month of May and its festival of flowers make the delight of my camera!

This pretty moment of the year is usually the occasion for a visit to the wonderful village of Apremont-sur-Allier. It is listed as one of the most beautiful villages of France and it really well deserves its reputation.  This medieval style site was renovated in the interwar years by a rich ironmaster. It is overlooked by a beautiful castle that opens the doors of its floral park to visitors.

La chose à ne pas manquer en ce moment est la tonnelle de glycines qui envoûte par son parfum suave.

The highlight of the moment is the arbour covered with sweet-smelling wisteria, white and purple joining at the top of the vault.

L’autre curiosité du parc est le petit pont chinois dont la couleur vive égaie le site. Un véritable petit bijou!

The other oddity of the park is the Chinese bridge whose vivid red colour enhances the site. A real little gem!

I planted such decorative purple onions in my garden as balls. But he grew up ridiculous. When bloom, I will show.

    1. Thank you, Tatyana! The place is a botanic garden and there are umpteen varieties of plants. Professional gardeners take care of them and I envy their skills! I look forward to seeing your purple onions! I wish you a nice weekend! Sandrine

    1. Thank you, David. The place is a very successful destination for botany amateurs but also for bird lovers because there is a special site near the village where storks have a break on their migration way. I wish you a nice weekend. Sandrine

  12. Great walk. Such old and attractive buildings, which are so carefully preserved. I wonder what is inside of them? It has always been curious to see the interior decoration of old houses. Gardens created by professionals are always interesting to consider and every time you are amazed how it is possible to create such beauty from simple plants.

    1. Thank you, Irina! In fact some people live in the houses, with all the modern amenities! They cannot be visited. The man who financed the restoration of the village wanted it to be a place for living, not just a museum. It must be wonderful to open one's windows on the park every morning, but at the same time many visitors try to peep into the houses, which must be unpleasant for the inhabitants. Wishing you a nice weekend! Sandrine

    2. Thank you for the clarification. Yes, whatever the old house was, the owners are uncomfortable when they violate private space.

    1. Merci Karine! Bisous

  20. Hello dear Sandrine,
almost everything is gorgeous in this post: the old buildings, the gardens, the wisterias and you... But I don't like the Chinese bridge. I can't help it. :)
Your previous post is wonderful too. Lily of the valley has been chosen the "national flower" of Finland, it's so much appreciated here.
You too, have a lovely weekend!
    Bisous

    1. I can understand that the red bridge may not be to everyone's taste, it is a bit garish in the peaceful environment of the garden. The park contains two other chinoiseries, but they blend more discreetly with the landscape.
You have a very lovely "national flower"! In France, lily of the valley has the place of honour on the first of May.
      Bisous to you too!
