This Friday has arrived too soon without offering me the time to give the finishing touch to this post. I will nevertheless try to respect the deadline of the Friday Foto Friends with a kind thought for Debbie who cannot host our posts on her blog this week.
So without further comments, let me show you the pictures I took last weekend during my visit of the Cormatin chateau in Saône et Loire.
It dates back from the 17th century and its restoration managed to enhance its beautiful architecture surrounded by moats and its multi-facetted garden.

La cour intérieure.
The inner courtyard.

L'escalier intérieur.
The inner staircase

Une pièce meublée dans le style fin 19ème siècle.
A room furnished in the late 19th century style.

Une poule topiaire et les jardins de style médiéval. Je ne vous montrerai pas le labyrinthe de buis totalement dévasté par les parasites et qui a pourtant dû être le point de pire du parc du château.

A topiary hen and the medieval style garden. I will not show you the boxwood maze that must have been the focal point of the park but that has been ruined by parasites.

Bon weekend à tous!
I wish you a nice weekend!

    1. Thank you, Aritha! Yes, I love the wrought-iron work in picture 3. It is actually the dome at the top of a small tower in the garden.

  2. These chateaux are so magnificent. I visited the Loire Valley when I was a teenager but have never returned. Perhaps one day I will once again have a chance to view this stunning piece of history.

    1. I hope you will, David. The Chambord chateau in particular has enhanced its heritage through refurnishing while it used to be nearly empty a few years ago, and I also heard it say that they would rebuild the gardens to give them back their flamboyance.

    1. Thank you, Irina! The place is actually very restful and calm, the visitors are not so numerous (unfortunately for the owners who rely on our visits to fund the restoration), so we can fully enjoy this moment out of time. Wishing you a nice evening!

    1. Thank you, Tatyana! The view from the garden is really magical and you would not be surprised to see a princess looking out of one of the windows of the castle, it seems that time has stopped in this very special spot where visitors are rather rare. Wishing you a nice evening! Sandrine

    1. Thank you, Elena! True, we get back to the fairy tales of our childhood when visiting such places! You daughter would have been happy to see the topiary hen but also a real one that was in the garden and that had fluffy feathers on the top of its head, like a funny wig! If I had known that she was a fan of hens and chickens, I would have posted the picture. I keep it for a future post and hope she will enjoy the sight of it! Best wishes! Sandrine

    1. Yes, Irina, such a house would be far too big for me too! But at least I would have enough walls to hang all my embroideries :))

  18. I am always very interested in reading and watching historical programs about France of the 17th century. It was very interesting to look at the castle, sorry just a little photo inside.

  19. Thank you, Kseniya and I am happy you appreciate this period of history. Most castles now allow taking pictures inside as it is almost impossible to control people's use of mobile phones that can take photos. But in small castles like this one, the visitors are in very small groups and the guide has a close look, they prefer people to buy postcards or photo leaflets in the souvenir shop to contribute to the restoration of the building. But I must admit that the inside of this castle is not the most faithfully furnished I have visited, unfortunately we really feel the need for money in this place.
